About Dutch agencies, I (enthusiastically) talked about SPSMM “three musketeers” (Maaike, Amy and Valerie + Michelle – by preference order…); but we can’t forget Wilma Wakkers, with Bo D., Gwen L. and… and who?!
First time I saw her it was because of an Anouk Morgan shot, and I practically felt in love. I maybe had the chance to say that before, but better repeat: some Anouk Morgan shots are what blood doping is for cyclists – they alter performances.
The good is: that’s absolutely legal.
The bad: well, I love Anouk’s works so much that I have to admite that sometimes they alter even too much “what the model actually is”.

If I have to tell the truth, this is more than just about these shots.
Actually, this seemed to me such an easy and fast way to show two “almost unknown models” I really like (and generally: two of my fav at WM), and so I asked myself: why not?

The quality of the pics even if good is… well, I wouldn’t have noticed these, if it wasn’t for Sanja and Angelika. But even if this space is not about them (by themselves), just a couple of words.

Sanja isn’t exactly a “new face”, young but “not really young”, she isn’t very peculiar if I have to tell the truth, but… I really like her a lot. For the kind of model she is, she’s got a good presence, nice features and she’s really reliable to me.

About Angelika, she’s got a lot of time to come, and good things for sure (well – hope so). For me her potential is really good and if I think of what some good development could do, well, I’d keep an eye on.

Even if this shots just have “positive” note, well, I think these two models singularly still have a lot to say – even better and more convincing than this.
So: Sanja is maybe a little bit less surprising and intriguing but more “reliable” for sure; about Angelika… well, nothing sure, but potentially great things are possible; and I’d really like to see something more in next months. We’ll see. Btw: they both worth (even if so much different) attention for sure.

For the record: I’m not gay. No, 'cause I don’t know why, but nowadays it happens very often to listen to something like “Wait, are you gay?!” in two circumstances:

- a girl who knows she is very hot let you understand she’d like to have sex with you and you just say “No, thanks” (or something like that);
- you don’t think a pic like this is really sexy.

About the first point: ehy, I don’t happen to have sex like this; and, most important, I don’t have sex with a girl (even if very hot) just because of a decision of her; I know usually word works like that and medium guy (girls forgive us: guys are basically stupid…) would have sex with EVERY hot and sexy girl if they’d ask him, but – not my case, not at all! I’m not a saint (oh my gosh, absolutely not!), but less than less someone “drooling over girls” that squalid (and passive) way.

Then: about the pic, I generally don’t like girls (and even models, talking about fashion), like… like… well, “Victoria’s secrets angels” just to get what I mean. Well, wait, there are few exceptions, for example even Caroline T. is an “angel”, but completely different from "usual standard" for sure!
But if we talk about pics like this, the thing is even… well, I’m "kind of repulsed" (or at least: “What the?!!! No thanx…”); too much ostentation, too much “winking”, too much… when you want for a girl “to look hot and sexy”, well, most of the times result is “overloaded”. And this is the case. I don’t love Adriana by myself, but this way, well - even less.

PS if you're one of those DUMB MEN IN LUST STARING AT MODELS IN THE SUBWAY (or wherever else) LIKE... PIECES OF MEAT?! (btw: that's not flirting, it's bothersome and damned annoying)- oh well, so sorry: you're going to enjoy this for sure...

Do men have so much space in fashion world? I mean: just for example, did these last days have same media exposure will be given to major fashion weeks in September? Guess not.

So, we have Menswear S/S shows; and what happens?

Frankly: I expected at ABC News they knew what the hell “best relevance” was… I mean, great (well, maybe “great” is not the right consideration… let’s pretend it, I’m too much polemic these days to write about this…), Auguste did some Men shows (and we could talk about this: “this this”, and “this” generally – women at men shows? WHY?), and bla bla bla, but… if the news is “Enrico Coveri Milan MENSWEAR Spring/Summer 2011”, well, no offence intended, maybe I don't give a damn about seeing Auguste?!

C’mon, men already don’t have space they’d deserve; and if for a miracle you give news about men’s show, well, pleeease at least choose the pic a little bit more cleverly… ‘cause if Monday 21st at 11:30 someone went to Piazza Cavour 3 in Milan I guess that (the subject of the pic) wasn’t the first reason because of that someone did it, not at all.

Quite simple: this is one of my fav models if we talk about catwalk.
And generally, this gives me the chance to say she's absolutely an outstanding model; ‘cause the point is: modeling is kind of… well, like playing basketball. I mean, if we talk about Kobe, Lebron, etc, well, maybe that’s another sport… but if we talk about “humans”, what makes of a player a good or even great player?
The point is: for the kind of player you are, what you have to do for good, you have to do great. So if Dwight Howard is a great center it doesn’t mean he can do EVERYTHING, but what he has to do he does it great, well, Lyoka for me is a perfect catwalk model,

She’s got an outstanding walk, her face looks just perfect (features - look at her cheekbones! / first of all expressivity), her body is kind of perfect (“for the purpose”). Really, she’s just striking, and if you haven’t seen her “live”, at least go and take a look to one of her catwalks videos.

I want to underline that if you ask me “about the girl” I don’t like her too much (no, ‘cause I read mails I receive and some a little too much often tend to confuse what we are talking about…), so… well, I guess my enthusiasm is even more appreciable! I really hope to see good things in the upcoming catwalk season – I mean, not about her appearances (from this point of view: no doubts), but about her booking quality. And “even if” 1986 (“even if” is the general thought of the business; and from this point of view, she even began quite late for the standard...), well, from my point of view her peculiarities should give her good chances for a solidly long career still to come. At least - really hope so.

I received a lot of material about Gwen. And I already wrote (even if a couple of words) about her
“well, at Wilma Wekker I noticed (“early”) Gwen L.”
and, despite that “early”, Gwen isn’t that much old – absolutely not! The point is… I saw some early pics when she really had just began, and I have to admit my huge enthusiasm about her.
Then I saw “contemporary material”, and that enthusiasm became kind of moderate; and even something less…

But I have to thank patience (and stubbornness) of who has opinions and fortunately doesn’t try to convince me I may be (better: I AM!) wrong like “a bloodthirsty knight on a mission”, no, just share his/her point of view; this, plus “Dutch mafia” that can be really convincing – and stubborn!, so last chapter of the story (the Gwen one) has been her last “Resort appearances”.

She did some good “appearances” so it seemed to me limitative to cite just this or that; the point is: she really convinced me.
Better – maybe I haven’t found my “early” enthusiasm about “her early shots”, but now I’m back to a fairly good optimism. So even if I’m still not completely convinced catwalk is her “natural environment”, not at all (and from this point of view, what you’re going to find about Lyoka will be quite emblematic), well, good to see her again and change a little my opinion – and btw thanks for the tip. :)

When you’re going to find (and you found) this kind of posts (about a single editorial / photo session / etc – btw “@ posts”), well, these are not generally about the model, but about what you’re going to find by itself.
So, here the thing is quite clearer. I’ve got such a huge enthusiasm for Maaike, but this, well, disappointed me – and not a little actually.

Once we say “Great for her to be in Vogue Turkey”, and bla bla bla in this direction, well, the point is… it’s just like being on a bus. If you get out at the wrong stop, well, the city is still great and amazing (ok, if it really is… hope you’re in Paris…), and the disappoint is just about being in the wrong part of the city.

About Maaike, well, I guess this is the classic – right (and "right" doesn't express "how much right" Maaike is...) girl in the wrong place.
This editorial was perfect for such a “pure cuteness” girl, with delicate features and soft expressivity; for Maaike… well, kind of happy for the “where” (Vogue Turkey editorial), but not that much about the “how”… but as usual, you know, optimistically the good is: a good chance to do a lot of other good things for sure.

Do I like this girl to death? no, not really.
But about the model… you know, there are some people (fortunately: few – well, at least, hope so) that see in fashion and models something like… well, they want to search something they’d like to find in a girl they’d meet elsewhere; I mean, they think “like” is about liking the girl, finding her cute, pretty, and just that. And if we talk about that, well, I have to say that even worse is doing the same thing but about sexual attraction. From this point of view, the note is quite easy: IF YOU’RE A MAN, USE YOUR HEAD – THE RIGHT ONE!

After this little digression, what about Minke? You know, when someone tells me (or even just think) “who cares about models’ life and personality” I’m kind of… “What the hell are you talking about?!!!”
Because:
first, if you ignore models’ life and the fact they’re first of all girls (even better: models is WHAT THEY DO, not what they are…), well, you must be such a dickhead (no offence intended - or better, absolutely yes…);
second, if we talk about fashion, personality is not just about the girl, but a lot of times it’s about what even “the model” can communicate and so be able to do.

If we consider the two opposites, what I love the most are introvert, withdrawn and “kind-of-alienated” (I talk about personality and the way they look in front of the camera) girls, or explosive girls, the ones with such a terrific attitude.

I wanted to write something about Nina, and so I asked a friend… well, let’s use words the right way, I asked “an acquaintance” if he knew her – and I just asked for an opinion too.
“Yes, I remind of her, THE LA MODEL”… and you know, in fashion world if you’re brought to mind for being “The girl who cried on the catwalk” (let’s draw a veil over that episodes and all the stupid things I read and heard about that… Auguste A. btw), “A Vogue cover girl”, “The Prada model” (see: Rasa Z.), even “A Ford model” (even!), it’s kind of very good or at least ok, but being “The LA model” is… well, not exactly what you should dream for (and btw, just for the record she’s signed with Why Not too).

This girl isn’t exactly (despite what you could find wrote around…) a “new face” (22), and in my mind at that age your career should be a path well defined; well, even at 18 actually for me… and with what I wrote I just mean: fashion industry should have a clear idea of your potential and what you can successfully do – or not.

About Nina… I have the impression her career is on a path that… well, good for sure for what she’s good for, but kind of… well, the path is a little bit too much narrow for the way it should be.

If “The LA model” was such a soft and delicate way to say “The hot (and LA based) model – but first of all HOT” (and it was!), well, I guess I have to face the fact that’s what generally fashion industry may think of her; and that’s such a pity.

‘cause I’d like to see something more like this, and so on (and even better, ‘cause I saw some other pics and I really loved them! some so sweet and lovely, not hot for sure…), and… well, if it is so hard to change the mind of a mother-in-law about her daughter’s husband (haha whaaat?!!! *_*’), I know it’s even harder to change opinions about your modeling potentialities. But… the good is something like that may take just few good and well oriented tests; the bad is… even if it’s such a cool name for an agency, “Why not?” isn’t exactly enough as an answer to who’s going to ask you “Why?” about that.
So… is she hot? Sure she is; is that all I can see? No, not at all; actually, right a little little little part. Not exactly what I expect from a Russian model, but good for sure. And if I’m certain about her “she may look better and different for sure”, well, if I have to be honest I’m even curious to see something more about her posing potentialities ‘cause, until now, not exactly too much to see and think about, not really!

USIP Jeanne B. – Ordinary extraordinary

The other day I was having a chat about models; particularly, it was about some kind of models. It’s just about tastes, but I’m not a real and huge fan of some “extremely kind-of-weird” models – oh well, generally, with very particular features. And, for the record, as I wrote to another girl who wrote me sending me material about some peculiar models, it’s worth point out a model like Emily W. as a good “meeting point” (matter of chance, you can find her at models.com, where she appeared right few days ago as “model of the week” - but I wrote about her in my mail before! :P).
But – back to the chat. Talking about that, we arrived at the opposite: so, models with kind-of-very-regular-face and/or body. With body I mean “numbers” or, very often, presence; ‘cause it happens that a model, god only knows why, has good numbers, a stunning body, but in shots, well, there isn’t any kind of magic – and the look is… is the one of a very regular body.

From this point of view, I received some stuff about Jeanne, and we compared our opinions about “ordinary” and “extraordinary”.

With “ordinary” we may think to “regular”; and the world absolutely needs models with a regular face, I mean, even more than some “extreme girls” that, honestly, are not so much versatile and multipurpose – especially if we consider the thing under a commercial point of view.
But, sometimes, a model with a regular face may be really impressive – and kind of amazingly charming. About this, well, I absolutely think that, and I had to agree.

But about Jeanne, even if I like some things I saw (btw: I adore these last three shots…) I really don’t know what to think; I mean, that she’s kind-of-regular, well, that’s for sure. That she can do a lot of interesting things, well, ok; if you ask me about “something more”, I don’t know… and even her body, she’s got the numbers, but it’s so hard to have a definitive opinion.

So, as a commercial model, well, I even like her more than a bunch of other girls for sure; but for some shots I really have the impression it may take 100 snaps to have what you want – if you want something different from what she may mooore naturally do.

PS about the ordinary / extraordinary, in the mail I received there was a definition I liked: “extraordinary ordinary”; well, I didn’t agree about Jeanne, but I liked the expression to describe a model with an ordinary look and an outstanding model potential. And well, we’ll see in the future this kind of models, but there are.
Continuing on this game, well, what may be a “ordinary extraordinary” model instead? Well, the best example is Monika J. for sure: she’s such an outstanding beauty, and she makes look everything so much easy and natural. You really have the impression she might be the “girl next door”; even if really kind of improbable… I mean, if you don’t live in an marvelous paradise!

Actually she’s not pure cuteness at all, she’s not a model with marked or very peculiar features, but… she's such a delicate beauty, her “doll lips” and her clean face are such a charming factor; and her adorable (no, not stunning, but adorable for sure) body presence just merely shown and revealed.

And from this point of view, what she did until now is quite disappointing; I mean, not talking about quantity (just remember: a lot of times modeling and getting booked here or there is a question of personal choices… I’ll never question or dispute about), but absolutely about quality.
If you think about a model, considerations like “her career’s going for good” or the opposite are kind of normal and right; but for a model to not have good chances to show her real potential, well, that’s a pity for sure. ‘cause you can like a model, maybe not, maybe WHATEVER, but a girl even if in few tests should have chances to show her best, her surprising potential (if she’s got); and about Deimante, well, for me, this still hasn’t happened - and even if she's not old enough to be definitely worried, well, she is not exactly a "new face" neither right now, not at all.

Oh well, “modeling talking” - if you take a closer look to the sky, you’re going to see something very similar: in some particular seasons if you had some kind of very special and improbable skills (let’s pretend that’s possible… a faaat chance), you’d see skies full of young east-european girls flying through the clouds to reach London, Milan or Paris (well, let’s pretend they won’t go farther – like NY or Japan…). To do what? Build their book, create a convincing portfolio, see what kind of works they’d be able to do and get, have a “taste” of what model life is, and… but, step back: build their book.

I’m going to focus on this thing for sure in another occasion, but now let’s talk about Diana.

She isn’t a “fresh traveler”, I mean, she isn’t a “current year first trip model”, and… a quick comparison with another Lithuanian girl: her name is Ligita U. (Baltic Model / Elite – like Diana) she’s such a different kind of model, tests completely focused on her strong points, and we should not be surprise to see her at Donna Models (Japan) too, ‘cause for her that’s the perfect and most “fitting” place to be.
For her, and, most important, for what came out from her portfolio building, that absolutely highlights on the pure cuteness and “clean face” (about features) model she is (note: Ligita).

Now - back to Diana.
So: models are like… like news. Yes, news. Sometimes there are long periods of mediocre and a little interesting news – and ok, trying to make them look bigger than they are would be ethically unfair. But, when in a stream of not-so-exciting-news (*cough* last Lithuanian models *cough*) you have a very interesting one, well – successful receipt of the news is a very important part of the whole thing. To not use the best layout and paging possible would be a real pity!

Diana is a model with good numbers (1.75 82-60-87) such a particular face, explosive attitude, and I really think she showed something like 10% of her real potential. So, she’s quite young (still not 17), and I’d really really like to tell you: KEEP AN EYE ON HER. ‘cause, talking about news, if you can have doubts about her being “front-page material”, she’s at least second page for sure. And, in a little more specific context, if you search in Lithuania for something better - for the kind of model she is and she could completely have the chance to show, well, it will be so hard to find something more convincing. And if you’ll find yourself surprised “by the news”, well, I’m sure will be definitely for good.

Well, honestly mails have generally been positive about what I talked about (especially “the standard Nuremberg Trials justification"…) – but a particular phrase received “kind” complaints:

Someone (few) had to disagree about the consideration about Italians; most about my “an Anna Wint-something”.
Really: no offence intended! It’s just that… in my opinion, the most you’re important, the most you should stay humble and… but you know, I really really had no intention to express any kind of judgment about her!

Actually, it was more a consideration about how much I didn’t like how Milan FW calendar has been changed – it’s about respect, correctness and first of all dignity. From my point of view to change the calendar and handle the question that way has been a huge mistake as a matter of principle.

And yes, compared to what Milan and its Fashion Week (should) represent, to fashion designers, all the people who work around the event (from top models to stylists to last guy of the crew), to fashion fans who attend the shows, well - Anna Wintour’s commitments are really commitments of “an Anna Wint-something”…

First things I saw of this girl have really been very good and promising, and it’s not been the impact of an only (even if very) cute girl, no – I really got astonished by this Lithuanian model potentialities.

I found this sentence (well, should be an opinion but sounds such a sentence…) on the web, and it actually happens very often to listen to this kind of things. What can I say?

First, if we want to be ironic, "19 year old teens" is kind of optimistic age consideration…

Then, seriously (well, I actually wasn’t joking that much about the age…), we first of all have to admit models generally aren’t like other girls. I mean, not because they’re cool or because of their height or thinness, I talk about the kind of life they do, experiences they live (and at what age), time they spend away from home in this or that city, etc etc: these things change a person (for good – and bad too) for sure.
But, well, so far - best people I've ever met in my life. And I'm even just talking about "Watching TV, playing Uno or only hanging out at a park with" (not exactly "night life" usual clichés as you can see)… they usually have both maturity and adolescent surprising sensibility. I had my worst disputes and quarrels too with (haha – REALLY!), but after all positive aspects are absolutely more than negative ones.

But wait, I’m not that much dumb to not consider that each girl is soooo different from the others, and would be stupid to say "models are all great" the same way is (sooo much) odious listen to things like "they're all personality-less and confused girls that just want to escape from the hole they live in"… or even worse, worse things…

It's about caring about others' feelings, to not cause suffering, but first of all stop with the "models are" offensive wicked sentences maybe is just about having a mediocre intelligence.

I could write about the fact there’s nothing I hate more than what I usually call “the standard Nuremberg Trials justification” (...) that agencies sometimes use about the “too much young too much skinny” question – it sounds something like this:
“If we didn’t do that, someone else would”;

I could write of the whole world that just doesn’t give a damn about the “too much young too much skinny” question and (I love you for that) just doesn’t say anything about;

but no, I’ll write about – the “bla bla bla” people. People that just express an opinion to lose a couple of minutes of their life; yep, they didn’t have anything else better to do, so… why not to express an opinion about this?
It doesn’t matter if they defend this or that point of view, “bla bla bla people” is an homogenous category. But the point is: if your dad, your grandma or the first person you meet in the street expresses an opinion just to say something and waste time is ok; if institutions do that and they want to give you the impression of a serious, real, practical and (the worst) deep-felt initiative… it’s just stupid, dumb, and, why not? kind of ridiculous too.

In the bunch of “bla bla blas” we can easily find, let’s talk about Milan FW – and last has been just perfect.
First, very important: I’m not going to express a personal opinion about the “too much young too much skinny question”, but only about what happened (well, happens) round that.

FIRST QUESTION – MODELS ARE TOO MUCH YOUNG

Yep, guys: about anorexia! You’ll find a long list of bla bla blas about (example) how much they want to “revalue a Mediterranean healthy solar generous beauty” (WHAAAAAT?!!! I swear there is this!!!), but wait – finally a simple and clear point!

It doesn’t take an Italian genius to get that, but here the point: NO UNDER 16 MODELS in Milan FW! Wait a second… WHAT THE WHAAAATY WHAT?!!! I guess they just skipped some girls for the “Can I see your identity card?” question…
This is the kind of hypocrisy that really makes me angry, because:
either you do things seriously and coherently
or, simple as hell, JUST SHUT THE F**K UP!

Well, quick translation of the news, the city of Milan sent some guys (literally: "sentries"... haha, what?!) at shows’ backstages and they had to check if girls were too much skinny (well, what “too much skinny” is? Who knows…); and, if they were… pffff, I’m laughing… they had to stop these girls and not allow them to go on the catwalk (yeeeep, sure…).

Close-up is kind of amazing, and... I’m so happy she had this important chance to show her (almost) unlimited potential. This girl has the chance to become a reliable, consistent and solid factor, and that’s absolutely what she’d deserve.
This Vogue editorial is an important accomplishment but has to be a beginning. She’s got such a particular and amazing personality, she’s got the body (if we want to find a little defect: she should improve her body shape definition a little), she’s got the posing, she’s got the face (and what a face!) – expect great would be almost limited.

Ok, honesty first of all: is this one of those cases where talking about a particular editorial is a way to express how much I love the model by herself? Absolutely yes! And, always honestly talking, I love this model so so so much: despite I someway have to argue about some “book building” choices – but this isn’t the right place.

A little introduction is kind of obligatory: we don’t really have enough to try to understand her real potential. But first thing I actually thought when I saw these polas has been: “Cute is cute; and how much cute she is… but: is just that?”.
I don’t know if that’s kind of normal or not, but when I find a girl such a terrific cutie I’m always scared to death that is something to be worried about. I mean: about objectivity / about her modeling consistency.

So, the point is: some tests / shoots she did are consistent, some, well, just not too much.

Last thing is about her age. I’m really honest telling you first thing I thought: “wow, the kind of 20 yo girl who looks like a 5 years younger model” (well, in the mail I received there were a couple of pics, her name, and a short opinion – for the record positive; and, always for the record, it’s so hard to receive material about a model sender doesn’t like… ok, never happened!), and… well, telling you considerations I did then would be just useless now, ‘cause I now know she’s a 1994 girl – and “modeling talking” things are completely different.
I don’t know why, but I really thought she was “a 20-something cute trying for a comeback”, ‘cause after all behind her childlike features there’s something kind of sweetly mature. But the fact actually she isn’t even 16 gives her a lot of good chances – and us the opportunity to hope to see more (promising and convincing) things of this unquestionable breathtaking adorable cutie.

Even if, not a bad thing (fashion industry need that too for sure!) but merely a consideration, maybe her perfect dimension is the (really good and quite versatile) lookbook model.

Ok, first of all: mails. I thought it was kind of implicit but clear, well, I was wrong. PLEASE, send me links and, if you want to send me a particular photo – ok: but not 100 photos! I love you, but it’s just complicated to check what you send me that way…
Haha, most funny thing yesterday was to find 7 photos in 6 mails from the same person (on the same model)! As he told me he messed a little with his mail, but… it’s really been the peak of this absurd situation! :)

Second: I’d like to debate and exchange opinions only via mail, but not ‘cause I don’t like democracy… well, even if I’m a fan of freedom of thought I’d like to see some limits to freedom of speech (especially here, where we talk about very young girls…), and… well, the point especially is: some comments are just useless, but most important I DON’T LIKE MESS – well, if we’re not talking about my clothes scattered all over…

So: what to say about Auguste? Let’s begin with
– the bad part. Do you believe in chance? If “chance” is about “things doesn’t happen for a reason that has something to do with fate”, I absolutely believe in. If “chance” is an explanation for the weird fact Auguste A. and Monika J. NEVER MET IN ANY LAST MILAN FW SHOW (if I checked right that’s what happened, but the point would just be the same), well, “chance” is not a wise answer.

Auguste passed in few months from D&G, Iceberg, Les Copains, Jil Sander, Burberry, Prada etc to (no offence intended) “Love Sex Money”, and the thing hasn’t the “is all about school” explanation, ‘cause you can skip FWs because of school (see: NY), but once you do a FW is all about booking (so: YOUR AGENCY management first, if you’re 15) – and things went BAD; and BAD is such an euphemistic word to describe the mess happened… even if it’s only about booking quality, and not her catwalks quality for sure.

Conclusion is: one of the best debuts in last years is now one of the most underrated models, and this thing is just making me go crazy. She’s just perfect for Marras, Richmond, Jo No Fui, but she deserves that and especially more… take a look: her hair, her stance, attitude, confidence, body shape and proportions are just perfect, her eyes are pure heaven (and cold as ice...), face features, her cold and penetrating glance, the way she walks, etc etc!

Panicking about her (jeopardizing) career would be stupid NOW, but the point is: time for choices. Slow down and wait, or really believe in her – stuck in between is worst option.
Don’t know if it’s been a mistake because of her age what she did (and do, after all she’s 15) in her modeling career, but I absolutely agree with “If you do a mistake, well, at least do it well”!

Once upon a time…
words used to mean something. Oh guys, good old times… briefly: if I want a cat and I just can’t find one, the most stupid thing I can do is take a dog and call him “cat”.

If in agencies there are sections it means something: well, at least I used to think that. So, in my magical world, MODELS are girls a little bit established, with some works already done or, at least, if we want to have a veeeeery open meaning of the word, a solid book built with huge (ok, don’t ask too much, decent) tests. NEW FACES or DEVELOPMENT are not random words, they mean something, and we talk about age, we talk about the kind of so much different work booker has to do, we talk about creating a book, trying to understand what the girl can do in fashion world, and so on.

Well, in my world (and in good old times I guess) these things had sense and decent credibility. But right the other day a girl communicated me her changing status in her mother agency, and she was kind of happy, and if she is I’m too, and I took a look at her agency site to check the thing (no, I won’t tell the name) and – WHAT’S GOING ON?!!!

I had impression just happened the stupid story of the cat, so: they don’t have so many cats (models) at the moment, and even dogs (new faces) are not of the level they used to have, so, without logic reasons – dogs became cats, and… well, this metaphor is driving me crazy: new faces turned into models, and mediocre fashion material magically became new faces. Bang, like that, just changing words. I just don’t think this is the way things work: if a girl never worked before, doesn’t have a really convincing (or at worst even decent) book and you don’t know what to do with her SHE’S NOT A MODEL.

So: is calling a dog “cat” the solution when you find out there are no cats?!!! mmm… guess not, guys around.

You know what happens with people, with girls in the “real life”, and that sometimes happens with models too: sometimes the point is about first impact.
And first impact doesn’t have to be about the person / girl by herself; I mean: it’s even about the situation, the kind of context, a lot of things indeed. So maybe the first impact isn’t that much great, but the fault is of everything but the person you are facing.

Btw, objective opinion: about “conditio sine qua non” for medeling, obviously, nothing to say; endless legs, good posing, but I don’t like her face so much, and even less her expressiveness (not such a wide range of expressions actually). And that’s that.

++ Deimante M. – Expect the unexpected

I mentioned something about “last Lithuanian stream”, and briefly there are two great categories (I mean: that is worth to mention and with “from little to great” prospects):
-the “pure cuteness” girls (or: pretty faces of the minute – a lot);
-new faces that are very good and interesting prospects;
and something right between (but barely undetectable).

After a little “I have to admit general level is a little inferior right now” introduction - In the second category girls changed a lot lately; I mean, the kind of girls, and if I think Auguste A. (even 15) is something different of a “penultimate stream” is because Deimante is a good example of what’s going on right now. Good or bad, you won’t find a new Auguste now, a girl with a huge and terrific presence, and you (well: I especially…) have to face it.

Talking about Deimante… is one of those girls, honestly a few, that you can’t consider in an uniform way. I mean, any consideration about the girl won’t be good for “THE MODEL”, and it’s quite frustrating to consider that for someone like me – I mean, ‘cause about a merely practical question, Deimante’s polaroids are absolutely useless to get an idea of this model. Period. And this thing just makes me go crazy.

But let’s face it, as I always say: you don’t have to be Lebron James, you don’t have to do well (great) everything, it’s a plus to be an icon: a great (or even very good; or “good, period”) model is the one that – what she does well, she does great; so Katiusha, despite isn’t a complete model (and for her body proportions / face isn’t neither a good prospect from that point of view right now), is a very (very) good one.

And… ehy, wait a sec: how old was this amazing bride? Guess not enough for most of the countries with a decent and merely acceptable democracy.

So: we could go on with considerations about the “model herself” or consider how much young she is, she’s been and say a couple of words about that.
Or… I think that people around are smart enough to reflect on the “Too much too soon” title and reach a successful conclusion about this 1995 girl – that just for the record didn’t do all these shoots today or yesterday… this “sulky girl” was something like 13…

Conclusion: even if I don’t like this kind of model too much (Russia first of all “give the world” a lot of interesting faces you won’t find elsewhere, and Katiusha from this point of view isn’t the best example), I have to admit this one is really good material, and hope (and believe in) the best for the future of the model, and the girl first obviously; as usual - should be for everyone.

PS the title… don’t know how (a pretty weird choice…), someone just sent me something about the “New York dolls” homonym album, so that’s the reason of the title! and yep, I’m just listening to that, but guess will be the first and one of the last times actually…

What to say about Rasa? She’s a Lithuanian model, but she’s such an unusual one; I mean, she’s got nothing to do with the “last stream”, and less than less with penultimate one (with “penultimate Lithuanian models” I mean: Auguste A., Julija S. and so on; last stream are… are… well, take a look at what’s going on at Baltic Models / Elite Milan and you have a general idea of what I mean). Btw, she’s been perfect for Prada ‘cause she and Prada choices about catwalks/image are so similar (at least, for me): I can’t say I really really love, however I just go into rapture over and I can’t take my eyes away.

Her presence on the catwalk is really awesome and any photo doesn’t give the real impression of how much amazing she is.

So, is there much more to say? Don’t know… that this girl is absolutely “eye-catching”, pure cuteness and whatever-like-this is kind of obvious; about the model… don’t know, I saw something, polaroids and tests, and avoiding any consideration about her potential and what can come out from this cute blonde – is she anything special? is she anything huge that can hit hard a “casting guy”? Guess not. I say that because of the mail I received about her (maybe a little bit too much enthusiastic).

This will sound weird, but taking a look to Nastyusha's book made me think of last FWs; and especially about my fav moment. What's my fav moment of these last FWs?!!! You’ll never ever ever guess, I bet you won't…
Ok, I gave you enough time, you tried, you failed, here it is:

Despite last Milan FW has been such a huge disaster for Auguste (from my point of view – we’ll see that in another occasion), despite Women didn’t move the way I used to expect (I love Women most of the times, and c’mon – THEY HAVE TRENTINI NOW!), despite her career and what agencies did and still do with her is and has been hugely questionable ethically and from a merely professional point of view, well – in spite of everything!, seeing her closing Richmond this way just made me GLAD, CHEERFUL and BRIGHT.

You know, it’s that kind of weird feeling that… you know, you walk in the street and you just see rainbows, flowers everywhere, people around you seem to come from an old B/W musical and they dance and they sing, and then… well, then usually you open your eyes and you find yourself in the subway with a fat guy right all over you. But that moment was just pure heaven.

At Women should learn a quite easy lesson: you don’t need so much to look unimpeachable. You don’t have to be smart or clever or less than less ethically correct for real, it’s just about, at least, using good sense. Well, don’t have bad ethics would be better, but… ok, let’s get over this. So – you don’t need to be so smart so clever or sooooo unimpeachable to avoid some shoots from a girl’s book. Especially if she has an age where… you know, where if she was your cousin, your sister or your daughter you’d just say “No thanks” (better: “Gosh, no, shut the f**k up, I don’t want these kind of photos for her, she’s just 13/14/15/16). That’s exactly what happened with Nastyusha, I avoided to put those pics here, but… there are. The only point is: WERE THESE PHOTOS REALLY REALLY REALLY AN “INESCAPABLE FACT”?!!! SURE NOT!!!
You can’t change fashion world for sure, and these little little things are not the real point, but… you know, little by little… and seeing Auguste that way really made me love her more than ever; her, and the B/W heavenly musical I’m in every time I think of that… even the fat guy looks great because of how much well I feel … haha, THANK YOU AUGUSTE.

First pics I saw of “this solid blonde” she was at Beatrice, “in the old times” where (now Elite) Lisa B. was there too – and despite they were (and still are) so different they both impressed me a lot.

Even if with Alexandrina happened what usually happens when you don’t like “the girl by herself” so much: you just have to face it. Face that, after all, she's not exactly your type but her potential is just undeniable.

But let’s face it: now she’s at Why Not, going to be 17, and most important she’s the kind of model age is a factor – but at contrary. So, even if I think is (and will be) hard to see her on catwalks with a “more-than-ordinary impact”, her posing skills and, most important, natural presence is fated to become a huge factor.

And it’s not about improving her attitudes, it’s just… well, I’m talking about what happened (and is still happening) with Lithuanian Julija S. – but at the opposite. Julija in last months changed a lot, I’m talking about the girl, and I have to admit I didn’t expect that way, and it’s a (still can’t get if positive or what) factor.
About Alexandrina the thing is and was (from my point of view) clear at first sight of early polaroids, she’s becoming a model with a huge and solid presence in front of the camera, and time is just a (strange, in fashion industry…) welcome factor with her.

I used to say:
“You know what usually happens with agencies – and if you don’t, here quite briefly: they snatch little girls up as soon as they see any good modeling potential; sometimes, any modeling potential; a lot of times – any potential. For the record - it even happens that they just snatch little girls up, period.”
and I wasn’t so far from how things are. The point is there is a “Conditio sine qua non”, some kind of “go/no go”, so if “you are that much tall and your body proportions are this much good”, you’ll easily be somewhere between “they snatch little girls up as soon as they see any good modeling potential” and the “they just snatch little girls up” category. Well, thanks to god (or candies and fast foods restaurants...) the “go/no go” in fashion cut a lot of girls, so agencies don’t have to work on so many girls – well, if they’re in east Europe things are a little bit different…

So, after this little introduction, let’s talk about Mandy; I’ve seen “her numbers”, and you can easily see that, she’s the kind of girl good for the “go/no go” standards.
Nevertheless: if we talk about the “here and now”, after all right now I’m not so much convinced about her.

When you don’t believe in a new face about the “here and now” but you think she's up to your good and optimistic expectations, there are two kinds of things you can hope about:
-the girl will change her body / face / looking;
-the girl need to “develop”, and this is a quite normal phase that everyone -unless you are a catwalk (like Monika J. or Auguste A.) or an adv/editorial monster- has got to pass, even if… you know, you can pass from 5 to 10, or 2 to 3, or 1 to 10, girls are different and results will obviously be too.

So, for transitive property, I believe a lot in Micha, and so if they believe in Mandy I do too; but deny the undeniable is short-sighted and kind of stupid. She doesn’t look very good in shoots I saw (even latest), and so much comfortable neither. She needs to get more confident, more and more, she needs to play with the camera a little bit more, pose naturally, she needs to change even the body presence by itself. But, c’mon, she’s so young (late 1995) and I can’t see any reason to not believe that won’t happen.

But I seize the opportunity (not for Mandy, I really have no idea of what is going to happen with her, and hope the best for her) to underline that “go/ no go” standards are an “ESSENTIAL” but not a “SUFFICIENT/ENOUGH” – and we’ll see that in so many other occasions later; especially about the “We anyway try, then we’ll see what’s gonna happen” agencies (often bad) habit…

Lately I thought of Caroline T.; well, more than usual…
Still don’t know how to get her switch to Women (some random names they now have in Milan and I just love: Auguste A., Nastya E., Maaike K., Alana K., Agnete H., Ginta L., Katie K., Nimue S., Snejana O., Nastya S., Olga A., Vlada R, Madysin R. etc etc!!!), but I thought of her because of that.

These days it’s happening to talk a lot about polaroids / tests, about how much these or those are less or more useful to get an idea about “new faces”, and my opinion has (always) been: I NEED FIRST OF ALL POLAROIDS. ALWAYS. It usually happens to see polaroids first and tests then, but it’s just about… you know, usually people mold considerations about polaroids after tests – and (almost) never the contrary.
Well, for me polaroids are MORE IMPORTANT THAN TESTS TO GET AN IDEA ABOUT A MODEL AND HER POTENTIAL (we’re not talking about “building up” a book), and if I have to take a choice about what to take a look at – POLAROIDS. ALWAYS. I’ve seen sooo many disasters made by photographers and agencies with tests. They’re a very useful instrument, but… the most I listened to these days has been “but what about presence in front of the camera, posing, confidence, ‘takes diversity’”?. I agree, absolutely, just – better change your mind with a polaroid and reset what you thought after have seen tests and not the opposite.

So: Caroline. Don’t know how, I just stumbled across some first polaroids.

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I just wanted to share this stupid but (I think) nice example; these are the kind of polaroids that can’t go unnoticed. It’s so easy to see whatever you have to see: superficially (about the face and her peculiar elements, hair, body structure), about the kind of girl she is and “what’s gonna happen 2/3/5 years from now” (face – body predictions) and finally about how much confident she is, her posing skills and how much good she looks in photos; and perfect “fashion material” she is and will definitely develop in (and yep, how much cute she is – but this consideration is just a personal plus…). Just for the record: it happened to be even more impressed when I saw (just yesterday) some Denisa D. old polaroids… but we’ll see them on another occasion!

Nastyusha, Nastyusha… this is a story little bit different from the recent (recent: as just seen here) Claire one; with Claire happened what happened, for example, with Deimante M. – it was about a bunch of agencies snatching the girl.

First thing I saw of this girl were "a long time ago pics", she was 14 (and for the record: identical to the way she is now; and for the record again: this is quite clearly the kind of girl won’t not even minimally change in her career, not an Alexandrina T. for sure from this point of view), and really briefly: nothing happened, nothing changed. And, honest: still can’t understand why.

I’m not going to talk about choices regarding the girl (I’ll try to do that the less I can, even if I know personally some girls and there are bunch of cases when I think agencies bad ethics are and have been questionable), I won’t tell if it’s morally right what happened with some 14 years old girls (and still happens), so – about Nastyusha: I’m not going to tell “agencies had to ‘milk’ her skills and titanic potentialities”, ‘cause we don’t have to care about what happened with her standstill. Maybe she chose to not travel at her age (I always say that: SCHOOL FIRST), maybe she did not have the success she could have had, and so on, that’s not the point.

The point is not about make the most: the point is about development and first of all valorization. Here we are: she’s 2 years older, and all we have are some mediocre not convincing or mishandled tests or photo shoots.

Do I still believe in this girl? YES, I do! And I say that out loud, even if most could tell me she’s just an average cutie. From the beginning I saw something more in her – and I actually have to admit that seeing her at Women gave me few optimistic expectancies.

So after all: still keep an eye on this model! You won’t be disappointed – or at least I hope so…

Well, cards on the table: am I extremely impressed by the campaign pics by themselves? nope; I mean, not more than in other situations. But the point is: Hannah H. and Frida G. together? Hurray!!!

I couldn’t ask anything more. I love them, and in so many different ways – and choosing two models so different but their own way great has been the best choice they could do.

PS stupid, but - curiosity: can anyone ask IMG why despite “Frida is FRIDA” she’s still on the “development section” of the agency? I find it quite funny… she still should evolve? into what?!!! “Pikachu”?!!! haha C’mon, she’s such a huge factor in fashion industry – PERIOD.

Second: despite what her numbers say (1.75 – 80/58/86), her body proportions don’t convince me completely. And, always talking about body, the part that makes me most doubtful is between shoulders and neck; I saw a lot of recent pics, and her body doesn’t convince me completely, just that.

About her attitude in front of the camera, I see a lot of good potential; even if - from left to right in next photo, there are “a huge YES” and “a timid no”

What to say about Monika? Numbers say it in such an evident way: me and “castings guys” agree about her. And in last FWs the thing has been hugely manifest. She did sooo many shows (“tens and tens” doesn’t give a vague impression… I’m really impressed…), and she just looked great.

But (and there is a “but”) I have to say it, I don’t know if she is a very complete model. I mean, better: in my mind, at the moment she isn’t. The attitude she showed in last FWs days didn’t change my mind about that and what I saw; I don’t see “same material” in advertisings or editorials. But… gosh, I don’t care about how much she’ll improve: right now what she does bad, she does great - and what she does well, she does magnificently!
She’s been just PERFECT these FWs, and despite her age, she’s one of the few models I’m really sure about – now and forever.
