If u want to send me comments, opinions, and most important new arguments and material about models / new faces (well, good music advices are welcome too!), feel welcome to write me at:
isthisitmr@gmail.com
I’ll answer everyo… well, I’ll answer the most I can! Btw, I promise, I’ll read everything, I’ll give a lot of space to interesting suggestions you’ll send me and “U SEND I POST” will be a very important part of “IS THIS IT?”.

PS FOR AGENCIES - maybe better underline and remind what I usually write: Feel free to send me material if you want, agencies' mails and updates are always welcome (well, if they're not like: "Write what we want or we're going to kidnap your cat"! haha, or something like that…).

Laine R. @ Elle Russia May 2010

This is just about this Elle issue, but a little trying to avoid some other mails (…), a little 'cause it just pleases me to, I have to say I saw Laine at Zara site too

zara.it

a pretty good lookbook.

And now, in Elle Russia, this:

tfs

With some really interesting shots.

tfs

Ok, bad thing: in its entirety, a comparison with Sasha M. editorial in the same issue is unrealistic.
Good thing: I honestly have to admit that, if I erase all my early expectations about this “once upon a time Ford fresh adorable (and for me: hugely promising) new face” (well, let’s pretend that’s possible), all I can think about this is pretty good.

Nothing great, but agreeable and well done; and Laine is just perfect in this luminous face / marked eye make-up , doing what she has to do (about posing) divinely. Yes, pretty good.

Katja B. – The “injurer pic”

Sometimes happen to come upon a “killer pic”: a wonderful, amazing, breathtaking shot – or even just… you know, you see something very charming and you can’t distract your mind from that. It may be the pic by itself, maybe the whole photo session; but sometimes the photo session or the single shot (especially if “killer”) have nothing to do with the model – and her other 10000 pics.
What to say about Katja? First thing I saw has been this

major fr

not really a killer pic, but… I’ve been kind of… well, I absolutely wanted to see more.

tfs

And the point is quite simple: is this girl another?! especially for her eye shape – actually: the thing I’m the less enthusiastic about this new face.

So, this face is really fresh, recent tests she did are encouraging

yorick.carbonmade.com

hope the best for her, but a little for my first (wrong) expectations, a little for objective (some face features; too much discontinuity shot quality; walk / “runway attitude”, but she can work on this for sure) factors - right now: is just wait and we’ll see (what we’re going to unpredictably see); btw with good optimism.

AOB -just because of “an Anna Wint-something”-

Ok, I received a couple (well, more than a couple…) of mails about this:

http://isthisitmodelsreview.blogspot.com/2010/05/aob-im-sick-and-tired-of-hypocrisy-do.html
Well, honestly mails have generally been positive about what I talked about (especially “the standard Nuremberg Trials justification"…) – but a particular phrase received “kind” complaints:

-are we talking about the same “adamant and immovable Italians” that changed their calendar just because of “an Anna Wint-something”?!!!-

Someone (few) had to disagree about the consideration about Italians; most about my “an Anna Wint-something”.
Really: no offence intended! It’s just that… in my opinion, the most you’re important, the most you should stay humble and… but you know, I really really had no intention to express any kind of judgment about her!

Actually, it was more a consideration about how much I didn’t like how Milan FW calendar has been changed – it’s about respect, correctness and first of all dignity. From my point of view to change the calendar and handle the question that way has been a huge mistake as a matter of principle.

And yes, compared to what Milan and its Fashion Week (should) represent, to fashion designers, all the people who work around the event (from top models to stylists to last guy of the crew), to fashion fans who attend the shows, well - Anna Wintour’s commitments are really commitments of “an Anna Wint-something”…

++? Julija S. – I solve Rubik’s cube in a little more than 1’ but I can’t solve this…

First: I really solve Rubik’s cube in a little more than 1’! :)
But don’t get scared, I’m not a genius, once you get how it works - a little dedication in your free time and it’s going to be a pushover.

Now, Julija: trying to draw a diagram on how much I liked (and like) this model, well, it should look something like this:

Haha, yes, very professional (btw last discontinuities are kind of closer and more schizophrenic!)… and yes, this ends with a huuuge question mark. But here the point.

tfs

First things I saw of this girl have really been very good and promising, and it’s not been the impact of an only (even if very) cute girl, no – I really got astonished by this Lithuanian model potentialities.

tfs

But here the questions are two: her “changing over the time”, and her not-so-much-constant performances (I mean: make-up choices and styling appear to be a huge factor for her runway successful and convincing result).

style.it

tfs

About the “changing over the time” matter, I honestly have to admit there are nationalities I focus more on: I mean, that happens more often with some kind of Dutch girls for example, or German, or even with Brazilian / Argentinian girls, and so on (I repeat: just general and indicative examples). But, honest, I never thought about this for a Lithuanian girl.

style.it

So after a little shock (or something like that…) facing her “not-so-much-constant performances” and about her changes I by the way had to revalue her a lot, ‘cause after all her runway presence convinced me (but that's quite objectively obvious); not “to rapture”, but… you know, I “came to terms” with that.

But… now, I have to face it: I have no idea of what to think about her!

style.it

Especially because… well, I can’t really enjoy her last two Vogue Italia appearances, and I guess that could be a huge clue for my subconscious; especially because of May editorial, that I really loved – except for Julija shot (btw: not her fault, not at all, just wrong place for this).

models.com / tfs

But don’t get me wrong, I absolutely have to underline that she’s a rising star and her career is already solid (especially on the runway) and fated to become even more significant. And, more specifically, last very convincing BMM new face so far. But, on “merely personal opinion” bases, her face features changed a lot (eyes shape / cheeks / etc etc), her body presence is… ok, from my point of view, in a little bit more than one year she’s just become another girl! And I really didn’t expect (accept?). And, after all, I’m still kind of… pure and simple: I still don’t know what to think about her!
But maybe it’s just about expectations: I guess is something like… you order a new Lamborghini and you find a Ferrari in your garage! You're happy, but dumbfounded; yes, but happy, happy for sure. Just different from my expectations, but her modeling relevance is absolutely what I expected for her to reach… and yes, after all, maybe I kind of like “this Ferrari”…

“Models are”… ?!!!

"Models are not cool. They listen to Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Coldplay and whatever crap their bookers listen to. In the end, they are confused 19 year old teens from small towns"

I found this sentence (well, should be an opinion but sounds such a sentence…) on the web, and it actually happens very often to listen to this kind of things. What can I say?

First, if we want to be ironic, "19 year old teens" is kind of optimistic age consideration…

Then, seriously (well, I actually wasn’t joking that much about the age…), we first of all have to admit models generally aren’t like other girls. I mean, not because they’re cool or because of their height or thinness, I talk about the kind of life they do, experiences they live (and at what age), time they spend away from home in this or that city, etc etc: these things change a person (for good – and bad too) for sure.
But, well, so far - best people I've ever met in my life. And I'm even just talking about "Watching TV, playing Uno or only hanging out at a park with" (not exactly "night life" usual clichés as you can see)… they usually have both maturity and adolescent surprising sensibility. I had my worst disputes and quarrels too with (haha – REALLY!), but after all positive aspects are absolutely more than negative ones.

But wait, I’m not that much dumb to not consider that each girl is soooo different from the others, and would be stupid to say "models are all great" the same way is (sooo much) odious listen to things like "they're all personality-less and confused girls that just want to escape from the hole they live in"… or even worse, worse things…
It's about caring about others' feelings, to not cause suffering, but first of all stop with the "models are" offensive wicked sentences maybe is just about having a mediocre intelligence.

+ Karina G. – A good example of what a good model is

Time for a quick question: who are the two girls in this pic?

tfs

There are (very) few chances you have the right answer, but if you have: BRAVO! After this little French digression, if you don’t have, from left to right: Olga A. and Karina G., and you have no idea of how much I’m happy they’re both in the same pic.

Because we have two good examples of what (with veeery different peculiarities) a good model is – especially for Japanese market:
Olga is the Russian awesome beauty with breathtaking presence;
about Karina

iqmodels ru

some early tests give the impression of her early role in the business. Btw, her editorial versatility (and generally her development) showed she’s that and even much more.

iqmodels ru

She actually did a lot of good things, and – what can I say? She isn’t for sure a model you would kill for (me neither), but… take a look to some of her runway appearances, and the conclusion is served on a silver platter.

tfs

If you want a girl you can count on for solid results with a wide range of good characteristics and very reliable (especially for a Japan agency), here she is; nothing more, but… ehy, it actually isn’t that much little – not at all!

+ Marina D. @ Amy Gee adv

This is going to be really really quick (and kind of unanticipated – but I told myself “Do this immediately or you’ll forget to…”), ‘cause after all this is only a quick answer.

Nicole (hi Nicole! I’m answering you here so don’t expect a mail too… haha, just joking…) saw in the streets of her city this

amy gee adv

and asked herself: who is this girl?

Well, is… ok, the answer is in the title: the Brazilian Marina D.; and funny, me too as soon as I’ve seen this adv I found the shot really… don’t know, not exactly amazing or breathtaking, but… kind of magnetic for sure.
Yep, magnetic, even I actually can’t find incredible reasons for that. But you know, sometimes life surprises you… and fashion too; I guess…

May 04, 2010

AOB I’m sick and tired of hypocrisy (Do we want to talk about Milan FW?!!!)

I could write about the fact there’s nothing I hate more than what I usually call “the standard Nuremberg Trials justification” (...) that agencies sometimes use about the “too much young too much skinny” question – it sounds something like this:
“If we didn’t do that, someone else would”;

I could write of the whole world that just doesn’t give a damn about the “too much young too much skinny” question and (I love you for that) just doesn’t say anything about;

but no, I’ll write about – the “bla bla bla” people. People that just express an opinion to lose a couple of minutes of their life; yep, they didn’t have anything else better to do, so… why not to express an opinion about this?
It doesn’t matter if they defend this or that point of view, “bla bla bla people” is an homogenous category. But the point is: if your dad, your grandma or the first person you meet in the street expresses an opinion just to say something and waste time is ok; if institutions do that and they want to give you the impression of a serious, real, practical and (the worst) deep-felt initiative… it’s just stupid, dumb, and, why not? kind of ridiculous too.

In the bunch of “bla bla blas” we can easily find, let’s talk about Milan FW – and last has been just perfect.
First, very important: I’m not going to express a personal opinion about the “too much young too much skinny question”, but only about what happened (well, happens) round that.

FIRST QUESTION – MODELS ARE TOO MUCH YOUNG
Let’s talk about this

“Camera nazionale della moda” practically organize FW, and this is the official regulation. In the final part there is an attachment

Yep, guys: about anorexia! You’ll find a long list of bla bla blas about (example) how much they want to “revalue a Mediterranean healthy solar generous beauty” (WHAAAAAT?!!! I swear there is this!!!), but wait – finally a simple and clear point!

It doesn’t take an Italian genius to get that, but here the point: NO UNDER 16 MODELS in Milan FW! Wait a second… WHAT THE WHAAAATY WHAT?!!! I guess they just skipped some girls for the “Can I see your identity card?” question…
This is the kind of hypocrisy that really makes me angry, because:
either you do things seriously and coherently
or, simple as hell, JUST SHUT THE F**K UP!

SECOND QUESTION – MODELS ARE TOO MUCH SKINNY
And this is even more funny.

milano.virgilio.it

Well, quick translation of the news, the city of Milan sent some guys (literally: "sentries"... haha, what?!) at shows’ backstages and they had to check if girls were too much skinny (well, what “too much skinny” is? Who knows…); and, if they were… pffff, I’m laughing… they had to stop these girls and not allow them to go on the catwalk (yeeeep, sure…).
First: are we talking about the same “adamant and immovable Italians” that changed their calendar just because of “an Anna Wint-something”?!!!
Second: ok guys, if you needed some passes for fashion shows you just had to ask! :)
This is another example of how much hypocrisy is stupid and irritating, and I repeat: if you have to say or do a thing just to waste time and show how much you care about a thing you actually don’t give a damn and you don’t want to have a serious initiative for: JUST SHUT THE F**K UP AND DON’T DO A DAMN THING. ‘cause if you do meaningless bullshits it’s even worse.

+++ Kirsi P. - If you needed a Vogue Italia cover to change your mind... here it is

I won’t do of this a personal crusade, not for sure, but… ok:
Now, what about “this anonym and useless (and even not so much good looking) Finnish girl”?!!! (well, I did a short version of soooo many comments I read around and personally received – when for the record I however continued to say all the best about her)

No, ‘cause, believe it or not, out there is (still!) full of people thinking this model is nothing special, a face like others, and, why not to say that?, thinking that I expressed a huge enthusiasm about her just for only-God-knows-what personal reasons.

brand fi compcard

Seriously talking, I admit happened what happened for example with Rasa Z. (well, with her actually still happens…): as soon as I’ve seen Kirsi I found her amazing, and even if I couldn’t find a reason I adored her more and more, and despite there were not answers to my questions, I found myself astonished the most was possible. I admit I loved her almost against my own will.

models / brand fi

If we talk about her walk and runway presence, well, there isn’t so much to talk about, she’s got everything to become such a solid and breathtaking presence

tfs

and her Prada exclusive appearance

brand fi blog

(I’ve been so happy to see her with Ylonka!) objectively confirms it – btw if we take a look to London and Paris too, levels she’s got potential to reach seem just huge.

But about her pics, well – even better.

brand fi

She showed from the very beginning her qualities, and, most important, the quick and significant development skills that only few have shown lately.

Well, I admit all this is (if you want) kind of questionable, but now we’re in the classic “You can’t deny her significant potential (or: even if you were blind you’d see a light!)” situation

women blog

Ehy, not talking only about the cover, but the whole editorial (note: you have to take a look! You’ll find Ylonka too, and two of the best prospects right now out there: Julia and Caroline. Yes, there is Julija S. too… but I’ll write about her soon…)

tfs

Close-up is kind of amazing, and... I’m so happy she had this important chance to show her (almost) unlimited potential. This girl has the chance to become a reliable, consistent and solid factor, and that’s absolutely what she’d deserve.
This Vogue editorial is an important accomplishment but has to be a beginning. She’s got such a particular and amazing personality, she’s got the body (if we want to find a little defect: she should improve her body shape definition a little), she’s got the posing, she’s got the face (and what a face!) – expect great would be almost limited.
Big news coming soon? Yes, big news coming soon for sure… so, “stay tuned!”.
